Luxury Kitchen Renovation

Of his role in this luxury kitchen renovation, Mike Beck recalls, “This may actually be one of the most efficient kitchens I’ve ever designed.”

The success of the Ladue, MO renovation was due in large part to the mutual respect between team members. Their impeccable standard for quality was met with decades of industry experience. Collaborators on the project included our own Mike Beck, Pernikoff Construction Company and the homeowner, Melodie Tauben.

Melodie called on a friend and trusted professional Jeff Pernikoff to reimagine her family’s beloved home, a 1970s ranch. Widely recognized in St. Louis’ commercial building community, Pernikoff has been steadily growing their residential renovation division and embraced the opportunity to bring the kitchen and living room up to modern-day (and Melodie’s) standards.

Kitchen Design Objectives

A love of cooking and entertaining informed changes to the kitchen’s floorplan and the placement of cabinets and appliances. Melodie had a clear vision for an elegant yet serene palette and mix of materials. Her personal style—familiar to St. Louisans who shop at her well-known boutique—while fashion forward, is one driven by function.

She set out to open up the kitchen, replace windows, create a breakfast room and a large island for for meal prep and seating. Altering the floorpan naturally brightened the space, and changes to the windows made a dramatic difference. Prior to the renovation, they were smaller and sat high above a backsplash. By elongating the windows they now take full advantage of a spectacular view while affording an abundance of natural light.

Cabinets finished in Soft White with Square Flat Panel doors serve as the foundation for the space. A custom panel conceals the dishwasher and two-piece crown molding was applied throughout. Tall pantry cabinets offer additional storage and feature roll-out shelves. Glass doors were used in the dry bar to showcase glassware and decorative accessories.

“The windows were a starting point in the layout of the kitchen and played a large role in the placement of the cabinets and key appliances. This may actually be one of the most efficient kitchens I’ve ever designed.”

Elegant dry bar—kitchen renovation ideas from Beck/Allen Cabinetry

Sub-Zero and Wolf wine storage and double ovens surround the kitchen’s dry bar.

Near the kitchen, the renovated living room reveals a penchant for design and travel. Its inherent warmth a conveys a sense of welcome to all who enter. The flooring was replaced, outdated paneling removed and new lighting added. Bookcases and cabinetry flanking the fireplace were created using the same color—Soft White—and door style seen in the kitchen and dry bar.
