BATHROOM DESIGN

In recent years, more attention has been paid to bathrooms than ever. Innovative products combined with homeowner’s needs for a serene retreat have put more emphasis on these frequently used spaces. Key objectives for homeowners include visual appeal, incorporating decorative accessories and ample storage space.

In master baths, for instance, homeowners are demanding larger spaces which frequently feature “his” and “hers” sinks, walk-in showers as well as bathtubs. Additional bathroom cabinetry is another key element often requested by homeowners. To provide additional storage, cabinets and drawers can be mounted on top of vanities for storage and to allow for a clutter-free countertop, and pull-out laundry hampers can be concealed in the base cabinetry. Also becoming a staple in master baths, televisions can be concealed within cabinets or behind mirrors.

Obviously, aesthetics play a major role in the design of any bathroom, and in many cases, decorative accessories are incorporated into the design to give a furniture-like feel to bathroom cabinets. As seen in kitchen design, onlays, decorative legs, feet and pediments give cabinets a finishing touch. Natural stone is used more frequently than in the past for bathroom countertops, and bathroom mirrors can be incorporated into the cabinetry design by crafting custom framework. Sometimes referred to as “jewelry” for doors, decorative hardware works to tie the entire design together—from the cabinets and tile to the countertops and plumbing accessories. Beck/Allen designers are constantly educated not only on the latest innovations in cabinetry, but tile, stone and plumbing fixtures as well to ensure that every consideration will be given to the latest products, trends and technology available.
