The growing preference for cleaner lines and more transitional details seen in recent years has elevated the perception and general knowledge of slim shaker cabinets (sometimes referred to as micro shaker cabinets).
Traditional shaker style cabinet doors are simple in form, with stiles and rails that can range from 2 1⁄4 – 3 1⁄2” in width. Slim shaker cabinets have noticeably narrower stiles and rails. In the case of two new introductions from Shiloh Cabinetry, 1 1⁄2” and 3⁄4” on the Malibu and Napa doors.
Mike Beck of Beck/Allen Cabinetry shed light on evolving styles and the role this door style can play in achieving transitional kitchens or baths.
“Homeowners and designers seeking something less traditional can find a slab door style too severe. In this case, I suggest the slim shaker. It gives the minimalist look while retaining some dimension. It’s slightly more elegant, a refined take on a more commonplace/traditional design.”
Most manufacturers represented by Beck/Allen Cabinetry offer at least one, sometimes more slim or micro shaker styles. They are currently available through Shiloh Cabinetry, Crystal Cabinets, Koch & Co. Inc. and Decor Cabinets. Stile and rail sizes vary as do paint and stain/species availability. Check with your Beck/Allen designer for specifics by manufacturer.
Though we’ve yet to photograph a project in this style, you can see a number of completed designs featuring these doors on Instagram using #slimshaker or #microshaker. We spotted beautiful examples in paints and stains, on cabinets and appliance panels from designers, builders and cabinet makers worldwide.
New door samples are on display now in both our Chesterfield and Maryland Heights showrooms. Stop in to look around or set up an appointment to meet with a member of our design team.
