Beck/Allen Showroom Tour

While the live kitchen in our new showroom was designed to impress, it’s important to note that our intent was not only to inspire, but to educate. It’s a showcase of custom cabinet capabilities and of-the-moment materials for visiting homeowners, home builders, remodelers, designers and architects.

Grand in scale and thoughtfully constructed, this kitchen is like most, the heart of our new home. It will serve as a gathering place in the months and years to come; for industry events and celebrations, educational seminars and cooking demonstrations.

Where it All Began

For our team, it was love at first sight, when we set eyes on a Lacanche range. And at 7-feet wide, the Sully 2200 model was perfectly suited for the space that owner Mike Beck had envisioned.

We decided on the line’s quintessentially French Armor blue, and built our bespoke range using Lacanche’s online design tool.

Large-Scale Details

With the range commissioned, the stage was set. The display’s design would always be mindful of the French heritage at its core, and while traditional in form, our construction and custom design details would explore all that is possible using Crystal Cabinetry, a line exclusive to Beck/Allen in St. Louis.

Mike’s vision would take advantage of 24-foot ceilings with wall cabinets reaching 11 feet, including something few cabinet companies can accomplish: the leaded glass doors of the wall cabinets are an impressive 6-feet tall, a feat not attainable by most manufacturers as a single door.

Other large-scale details in the space include the custom-designed natural walnut surround that encases a pair of Sub-Zero refrigerators. Post and lintel construction and the addition of black straps and wrought iron hardware give the piece a time-worn look.

Reimagining Inset

The customization of beaded inset cabinets was driven by more than aesthetics alone. A frame was designed that would surround both the door and drawer. This allowed for the removal of mid-rails, maximizing both the drawer heights and usable cabinet space.

In layman’s terms, notice in the image above that there are no bars between the drawers, which would be found in typical standard inset construction. If you can imagine the mid-rails as part of the design, a full three inches of drawer space would be lost. Together, with the use of specialty toekicks, the resulting design mimics the feel of a finely crafted furniture piece.

Adding to the furniture-like feel, pull-out spice columns and a knife block keep cooking essentials hidden yet easily within reach, while custom panels conceal a dishwasher, a pair of pull-out wastebaskets as well as a pull-out utensil and knife storage.

Island Style

The multi-level kitchen island was built with entertaining and cooking demonstrations in mind. Designed in three pieces, custom-configured wainscot ensures the reveals are consistent across the 18-foot face of the island. A curved pedestal welcomes onlookers to gather during cooking demos and eight guests can be seated comfortably at the counter below.

The island brings together a mix of highly coveted surfaces, including quartzite from our friends at Global Granite, an Anvil top from Grothouse and a live-edge walnut top from locally owned Goebel & Co.
