Working with Ladue design firm Savvy Surroundings, Beck/Allen Cabinetry was faced with a unique challenge as they began this contemporary kitchen remodel; to create a design consisting of clean lines and a modern sensibility yet grounded by elements found in nature. The resulting space feels wrapped in rich wood and natural stone punctuated by gleaming glass island countertops.
The Redondo door, a frameless style from Crystal Cabinet Works’ Quest line, was selected in maple with the Espresso finish and a chamfered edge. At the base of each wall cabinet, a frosted glass tilt-up door allows for easy access to everyday glassware, tableware and serving pieces while the upper cabinetry provides more than ample storage. The dark Espresso finish provides a stark, clean contrast to the frosted glass and the Chemetal Brushed Aluminum laminate drawer fronts below.
Multi-level island surfaces distinguish separate spaces for food preparation and barstool seating, a thoughtful design element for homeowners who entertain frequently. Glass countertops echo the adjacent glass doors and anchoring the island is a stainless. Furthering the couple’s efforts to include natural materials while providing a contrasting texture to the smooth slab door style, a highly-textured stone veneer covers the face of the island and soffit above. A professional grade range and hood by Wolf were selected from AUTCOhome and a refrigeration unit is concealed behind custom wood paneling for an uninterrupted appearance.
